The 355 began life as the brainchild of Jessica Chastain, the idea first coming to author-director Simon Kinberg on the set of Pitch-black Phoenix. "She had this microbe of an idea," recounts Kinberg to Total Film. The couple then worn-out their downtime on the X-Men shoot riffing about a team of international pistillate agents who join forces to save the world. "We set down together an outline, and at the said time we were going
to our dream cast with that basic barebones construct of an idea. And they all said yes."
Connection Chastain's CIA agent Stonemason 'Mace' Brown are Lupita Nyong'o's MI6 tech medical specialist Khadijah, Diane Kruger's rival German factor Marie, Rooter Bingbing's mystic Chinese political entity Lin Mi Sheng, and Penélope Cruz as South American nation noncombatant Graciela. And spell the movie explores their friendship, the "absolute thrust of this movie, tonally, was to make it experience real and grounded and intense and friendly," says Kinberg asserts.
